If you are a local business you need local customers and followers. It’s that simple. The Internet and social media has opened businesses up to garner, leverage and connect with an International following. Hey, I’m all for that! While a follower is a follower and we’re not going to turn any down, what you really want is people coming through your door. Your International followers might come through while visiting your town, but the odds of them being a repeat customer is slim. With that said, your local following is much more likely to return time after time. And that’s what you want.
So how do you go about building your local following on Instagram? Allow me to show you with this step by step system.
How To Grow Your Local Instagram Following
Step 1. Locate Your Business On Instagram
The first thing I want you to do is take a picture right now of your business and geotag it to your store.
Great. Now you can see that your location is tagged.
If you click on that, you’ll be taken to the feed of all the pictures that have been taken at your shop, store or restaurant.
Step 2. Like & Follow People Who Have Instagrammed Your Location
More times than not, these people who have checked-in to your location will be local. Comment on the pictures to make sure they are aware of your Instagram presence first. Then follow them. All of them.
You may want to do a little research of the hashtags local users and your customers are using while you are there. Insight is a good thing.
Step 3. Search For Nearby Locations
Next step is to search for nearby locations. You can search them via hashtags or go to a location and take a picture to find more.
Step 4. Follow People Who Have Checked-In and Instagrammed Those Locations
Now it is time to follow these people too. Again, the odds are good that these people are also locals.
This is a really easy way to start engaging with and building a community of locals who will now be aware of your business if they didn’t yet and aware that you have an active Instagram account.
