I talk to business owners all the time. It is my job after all. Many of the small business owners I talk to understand that they need to have a blog but just don’t understand how to get started and what to write about. And it can be tricky. I know, I’ve been there before too.
Now, coming up with ideas to blog about and sitting down to write is my favorite part of the week. But I had to work at it. You know what they say?Practice makes perfect. Well, I don’t know if I believe that completely. If you are practicing with the wrong strategy or wrong technique, you are just going to perpetuate that.
However, with the right strategy and the right technique, you are going to be on your way to becoming a super star business blogger. And with that comes a lot of perks.
– More Traffic
– More Leads
– More Sales
Here are six things to keep in mind as you blog. If you practice this way, you’ll be doing better already. If you ask me, better practice makes perfect.
1. Write For Your Audience
This is the most important thing you need to think about. You must write for your audience and no one else. Why? Because you want your blog to bring you QUALIFIED traffic. You want your blog to bring you leads and sales and nothing else! If you are writing to the wrong people, your blog is not going to do its job.
2. Write In Bulk
The more you blog, the better results you will see. One time a week is good, but three, four, five times a week, now that’s going to really move the mark. I think it is easier to knock out a week worth of posts in a day. This way I don’t have to struggle as much each day to get a post out for the next. It makes my life a lot easier. Plus, once you are in the writing mood, it is a lot easier staying there.
3. Create Social Posts As You Write
As you write a blog post, it is a lot easier to come up with a social post as the content fresh in your mind. Each time you upload a post and schedule it to your platform, go ahead and schedule your social post to go along with it. This will kill two birds with one stone.
4. Keep A List Of Topics
Coming up with topics is often difficult. Inspiration comes from all places and you never know when you will come up with a great idea for a blog post. I write down my topics on my phone as they come to me so I can always get writing fairly quickly. This is the perfect cure for blogger’s block.
5. Don’t Wait Until Your Post Is Perfect
There is no such thing as a perfect post. Remember that. It is better to get that almost perfect or “Good Enough” post up than nothing at all. And believe me, whatever your worst case scenario in your head is as to why you can’t post right now, is probably not going to happen. 🙂
6. Keep Writing
Lastly, keep on bloggin’ on. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
Good luck!
